Portions, pricing, process and frequently asked questions

Portions and cake size

Wedding cakes are generally served in 1“x1” size portions (finger portions). My cake tiers consist of 4 layers of sponge and filling and are at least 5” deep, so total finger portion size is 1”x1”x5”. Shorter or taller tiers are also available which can be discussed and agreed at design stage. If you are serving your wedding cake in the evening, then ‘finger’ sized portions would be best.
If you are serving it as the main dessert, you may want to go for larger ‘dessert’ sized portions. Dessert sized portions are usually 1”x2”x5”.

I recommend providing portions for approx. 70-80% of guest numbers, however, some people like to have extra cake to give out to friends and family afterwards who couldn’t attend, or even want a tier to take home for themselves.

If you love the idea of a large cake with lots of tiers but don’t need lots of cake, then dummy tiers area great way of getting the look you want without having lots of wasted cake. Dummy tiers are made with polystyrene dummies and then covered in icing, so they look exactly like a real cake! Another option to add height, is the use of clear acrylic tiers or metal separator tiers.

Pricing

There is no set price for a wedding cake as it depends on the size and complexity of your design.

There is so much involved in creating a beautiful cake right from an initial enquiry up to delivery and assembly on your special day. I love to make beautiful sugar flowers, and, in my opinion, they can turn your cake into a show stopping masterpiece! But to make these beautiful works of art takes time, and sometimes a very long time! Some flowers, with many individual petals, to cut, vein, dry, attach and dust, can take up to 3 hours to make each.

The following prices are for fondant finished cakes and include a handmade arrangement of sugar flowers and foliage but are average guide prices only and may decrease or increase depending on the level of detail and complexity.

Please note that I do not make buttercream covered, naked, or semi-naked cakes.

The price for delivery and set-up is in addition to the price of the cake and is 35 pence per mile, including the return journey, plus my hourly rate.

Process

SECURING YOUR BOOKING

The first step is to check my availability for your date. To fully commit to each wedding cake order and maintain exceptional standards, I only take a limited number of bookings each year and dates can fill up quickly.

A £100 non-refundable booking fee is required to secure your date and booking. We can discuss design ideas at this stage but will finalise your design closer to your wedding date as ideas can change a lot over the course of planning your wedding.

TASTING AND DESIGN

You will receive a complimentary taster box of 6 different flavours of delicious cake before your wedding.

Approximately 3-4 months before your wedding date I’ll be in touch to arrange a video call consultation.  During the consultation, we will talk about your wedding details; the venue, styling, where and how your cake will be presented, chosen cake flavours and any ideas you have. Before the consultation I recommend collecting images and ideas for inspiration including: colours, patterns, materials, textures, and flowers. After your consultation I will send you sketches of your wedding cake design. Any amendments can then be made to your chosen design to make sure you are 100% happy.

Once your design is confirmed I will send you your booking form and invoice confirming all details.

DELIVERY

I will be in touch with your venue before your wedding date to confirm the delivery and set-up time and will also provide them with all your cake information.

Sugar flowers will keep indefinitely if kept cool and dry and away from direct sunlight and make a lovely keepsake and beautiful reminder of your special day, I will provide your venue with a box to store them in once removed from your cake to give to you after your wedding.

  • HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO WE NEED TO ORDER OUR WEDDING CAKE?
As far in advance as possible. In order to create bespoke wedding cakes with exceptional attention to detail, I only take on a limited number of bookings each year.
  • DO YOU MAKE BUTTERCREAM COVERED, SEMI-NAKED OR NAKED CAKES?
No, I specialise in fondant covered cakes so all cakes are covered in a layer of white chocolate ganache and then a thin layer of premium Swiss fondant.
  • CAN I HAVE FRESH FLOWERS ON MY CAKE?
Yes, however please be aware that this is at your own risk. Fresh flowers are not a food product, and may contain pesticides, insects, dirt, or other contaminants. It is your responsibility to ensure that any fresh flowers displayed on or next to the cake do not contain pesticides and are food-safe (non-toxic).
  • DO YOU MAKE CAKES FOR PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES?
All my cakes contain gluten, eggs, and dairy, and some contain nuts. I can amend selected recipes to cater for some dietary requirements on request, however, please bear in mind that I do work with these ingredients in my kitchen and therefore cannot 100% guarantee any non-cross contamination for severe allergy sufferers.
  • WILL YOU DELIVER OUR WEDDING CAKE?
Yes, wedding cakes can be extremely fragile and very heavy, and a great deal of care is required when transporting and assembling them. Delivery fees will be determined by the distance and time taken to deliver and set-up at your venue.
  • HOW BIG DOES MY WEDDING CAKE NEED TO BE?
Size is usually guided by the number of guests, and I recommend providing enough portions for approximately 70-80% of guest numbers. However, some people like to have extra cake to give out afterwards to friends and family who couldn’t attend or even want a tier to take home for themselves.
  • CAN WE HAVE MORE THAN ONE FLAVOUR?
Yes, you can have a different flavour for each tier.
  • DO YOU HIRE OUT CAKE STANDS?
I currently have a small selection of cake stands which can be hired. A £70 security deposit is required in advance per cake stand. It is your responsibility to return the cake stand/s to my address within 3 days without damage. A full refund of the security deposit will be issued once returned to me without damage in the agreed timeframe.
